Missional Living Groups Update | Taylors

Culturally Engaged

Recently, a group of 14 members from our Missional Living Groups at the Taylors campus had the opportunity to spend a week in Costa Rica in partnership with Filter of Hope. The groups met as a year-long class with the aim of serving vulnerable people in our community and out in the world. Members learned about immigrants, refugees, and low income communities while engaging in service projects through partnerships with local and international ministries. This international trip was a capstone to their year-long missional living growth!

Folks from the Taylors campus traveled to Costa Rica to work with Filter of Hope, which has established relationships with local churches in the area. Our folks were able to meet with families in their homes and give them a filtration system to make sure that they are always able to have fresh water available. Members also took the opportunity to share the gospel with these families, using the filter as an illustration of the salvation and purifying work of the cross in our lives.

Group member Brian Warth reflects, “At one point, water shot across the room and we all laughed. Then we shared the gospel. Our translator had just accepted Christ the day before! This day, for him, was more than just translating. Some things I was saying about having a relationship with Jesus were sinking in. I would say something, and before he translated, he would say, ‘Beautiful,’ or ‘Wow.’ There was a newfound sense of awe in hearing these things and processing them. You could actually see the Holy Spirit moving around everyone in the room that day.”

Through the work of the Holy Spirit and the willing hearts of those who were called to serve, nearly 70 people from the neighborhood accepted Christ that week.

Program leader Hugo Muraco says, “Walking into the homes of these families and presenting them with the gospel was a humbling, encouraging, and challenging experience. Our prayer and expectation is that the Lord has and will continue to work in the lives of the individuals we had an opportunity to meet through the continued relationship and support of those local churches. For our members, we pray that they will continue to have an emboldened spirit that is eager to share what hope they have in Jesus.”

Will you join us in this prayer?
