Shelter in Him

The psalmist recognizes the challenge of living in a broken world where evil and injustice seem to be winning at every turn. Instead of being paralyzed by worry and anger, we have freedom in Christ to both cultivate goodness in our world and find shelter in God in times of trouble.

Study Questions

Application

  1. Instead of worrying about the world’s evil, we are called to cultivate faithfulness. Consider the gifts and resources God has given you, as well as what he’s called you to do. What is something you can do to cultivate faithfulness in your circle of influence?

  2. The psalmist assumes that hard times will come, and he is confident in God’s ability to shelter him. What does it look like to find shelter in God while you are suffering?

Key Points

  • While God has called us to do good in the world, we are not responsible to fix the brokenness and injustice around us.

  • Waiting is not passive—it involves actively releasing control to God.

  • God is sovereign over our lives and keeps us from danger, and we are responsible to move in obedience. This can create tension, but both realities are true.

  • God’s love is our shelter—he holds and sustains us through suffering.

  • The idea of reversal is integral throughout Scripture: death to life, suffering to glory, and brevity to eternity. Jesus both models this idea and calls us to follow him.
