In this passage, Paul calls us to respond to the gospel by offering our lives to Jesus. Living without compromise requires disruption and change. Yet when we give our lives wholly to Christ, we find God’s good and perfect will for us.

Study Questions

In this passage, Paul calls us to respond to the gospel by offering our lives to Jesus. Living without compromise requires disruption and change. Yet when we give our lives wholly to Christ, we find God’s good and perfect will for us.

Application

  1. Sacrifice is at the core of following Jesus. What does it look like for you to move from selfishness to sacrifice? In what area of your life do you need to change?

  2. Spend some time asking God to reveal any compromise in your life—both sin and the overall flow of your daily rhythms.

  3. Change is part of God’s plan for us. How are you prioritizing God’s voice in your life? How is he transforming you?

Key Points

  • Unless Jesus’ work has penetrated our hearts, living a sacrificial life will not make sense. Our obedience is a response to what Christ has done for us.

  • Paul calls us to live consecrated lives—to be set apart for a specific purpose.

  • Compromise is a threat to a life of consecration. We must be aware of the culture’s influence in establishing sin as acceptable.

  • To be aware of compromise in our lives, we must prioritize hearing God’s voice and being known by his people.

  • If our thoughts are not changing, then we are not becoming the people God wants us to be.
