Armor of God | Week 6 | 1 Thessalonians, Colossians 3:1-4, 1 Peter 5:8-11
1 THESSALONIANS 5:8
But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation.
COLOSSIANS 3:1-4
Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.
1 PETER 5:8-11
Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.
In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. All power to him forever! Amen.
1 PETER 5:8-11 (ESV)
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
STUDY & REFLECT:
The helmet is a vital part of armor, specifically designed for defense. And it protects one of the most vital parts of the body—the head, the mind. Your brain function affects the rest of your body, emotions, and actions. This is why Satan so often attacks our minds because our minds impact our hearts, beliefs, emotions, and actions. What do Colossians and 1 Peter say about our minds, and how we should protect them against Satan’s attacks?
What are some ways Satan has attacked your thoughts? Maybe it’s planting lies and doubts. Maybe it’s drawing your mind toward sinful thoughts. How would preaching the gospel to yourself daily serve as a defense against these attacks?
