Known as the “Land of a Thousand Hills,” Rwanda is one of the most densely populated countries in Africa, with a large percentage of its population made up of children and youth.
In 1994, Rwanda experienced a devastating genocide that claimed the lives of over one million people in just 100 days. The aftermath left countless children orphaned or vulnerable and deeply impacted families, communities, and social systems. While Rwanda has made remarkable progress in reconciliation and development, the effects of this tragedy are still felt—especially among children, who face poverty, trauma, and limited access to resources.
Thousands of children in Rwanda face barriers to education and basic needs due to poverty. Through the holistic approach of Reach the Children of Rwanda International (RCRI)—combining education, nutrition, healthcare, spiritual formation, and family support—sponsorship helps break the cycle of poverty and empowers children to grow into confident, Christ-centered leaders in their communities.
Our Greer campus is excited to partner with Benjamin Musuhukye and RCRI to bring hope, education, and the love of Christ to children and families in Rwanda. RCRI is a Christian nonprofit dedicated to nurturing children spiritually, physically, and academically through holistic support and a Christ-centered education model. Their mission is to help every child grow in faith, access quality schooling, and thrive free from fear of hunger or sickness.
Grace Church Greer will be organizing mission trips to Rwanda, where members of our campus will serve alongside RCRI staff and volunteers on the ground. These trips will give our people first-hand experience of the ministry, the communities served, and the powerful work God is doing through RCRI. Together, we’ll build relationships, serve children and families, and participate in meaningful projects that make a lasting impact.
