Powdersville Campus Hosts Service at Clemson

Throughout September, the Powdersville campus is hosting a Sunday evening service on Clemson University’s campus. The service includes Grace Church teaching, worship, and some additional service elements, and volunteers are primarily from our NEXT ministry (college and young adults). It takes place at the Barnes Center, near freshmen housing, and it's been a great opportunity to connect with local college students. Over 100 people attended the service the first week, including over thirty volunteers from the Powdersville campus who served with set-up, worship, hospitality, etc. The service will meet for a total of four weeks, with its last service happening this weekend.

Tanner Corley, the NEXT lead at the Powdersville campus, shared this about the opportunity to host a Grace Church service at Clemson:

“There are college students who would never come to our church who have heard teaching and been a part of a service for the first time. One guy, in particular, did not know what we were doing when he walked by, and a volunteer started talking to him. The following week, he showed up to a NEXT college dinner hosted at a Powdersville member’s house. That displayed the ultimate goal of this service—to extend the front porch of our church and remove obstacles so that college students can get connected to the local church. We hope college students see the value of being a part of the local church during their college years, and ultimately the rest of their lives.”

This has also been an opportunity for growth in several Powdersville members’ lives as they have stepped into serving in new ways. One example of this is the Miller family—Corey and Anna and their three daughters, who are Fusion and 24Seven students. They have put up banners, arranged chairs, set up A/V equipment, greeted people, etc.

“The Millers come in and stuff gets done. Their three daughters helped set up communion for the service a few weeks ago, which was just a cool moment to see how this whole family is serving these college students together.”

Powdersville college students who are already connected to the church have also helped lead the Clemson service in various ways. Some have shared live testimonies of growth from being a part of the Grace Church during their time in college, and others have helped lead worship in the band over the past few weeks.
